On Sunday, matchday 27 of the Ghana Premier League, Kumasi Asante Kotoko pulled off a narrow 1-0 victory over league leaders FC Samartex 1996 to relieve some of the pressure on head coach Dr. Prosper Nartey Ogum.
At Baba Yara Stadium, Enoch Morrison’s penalty in the second half kept the two teams apart.
In an exciting first half match, Asante Kotoko struck the crossbar. Then, in the 57th minute, they broke the deadlock thanks to a brilliant penalty kick by Enock Morrison.
After a run of disappointing results, Kotoko will breathe a sigh of relief after a turbulent week for the Ghanaian powerhouses.
Kotoko’s first victory in eight games has now seen them pass longtime rival Hearts of Oak in 10th place with 36 points.
Despite the loss, Samartex is still ahead of Nations FC and Aduana Stars by five points at the top of the table because they were unable to capitalize on the slip.
