Steven Desse Mukwala

With a brilliant brace from Steven Desse Mukwala leading to a 2-0 victory at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday, Asante Kotoko defeated rivals Hearts of Oak to complete the Ghana Premier League double for the first time since 1987.

To help the Porcupine Warriors earn the most points and the right to brag, the Ugandan scored a goal in both halves.

Mukwala gave Kotoko the lead as early as the ninth minute with a lovely shot that beat goalie Kwesi Nketiah. Three minutes into injury time, he added another goal on his own.

In their first Premier League matchup, Kotoko defeated their opponents 3-2 back in December 2023.

As a result, coach Dr. Prosper Nartey Ogum’s team improved to ninth place in the standings and maintained their undefeated record against Hearts of Oak.

Hearts of Oak, who currently sit 14th in the standings with 38 points after an incredibly challenging campaign for the Phobians, are just two points above the drop zone.

While Hearts return to the capital empty-handed, Kotoko claims the bragging rights and celebrations in the vibrant city of Kumasi are expected to last long into the night.

There are now three games remaining in the 2023–24 Ghana Premier League season, and the Phobians are in a serious trouble as relegation looms.
