Media personality Deloris Frimpong-Manso, popularly known as Delay, says being honoured at the Ghana Outstanding Women’s Awards (GOWA) is a challenge for her to do more.

Delay was crowned the topmost Outstanding Woman of The Year at the GOWA at a ceremony which came off at the Alisa Hotel Last Friday, October 16, 2020.

She also won the Television Personality of The Year award at the event which was attended by personalities across fields such as media, entertainment, medicine, sports, among others.

Speaking in a post-event interview with Graphic Showbiz, an excited Delay said she was overwhelmed and humbled at the same time.

“I am really overwhelmed and humbled. At the same time it is a big challenge for me because it felt like I was doing the same thing over and over again, but this has rekindled my energy.

“I have been doing a few things with The Delay Foundation but these awards challenge me to do more. They have rejuvenated me and spurred me on. I was given the awards because I have been outstanding so I have to ensure that I leave no stone unturned going forward,” she said.

Asked what might have won her the awards, this is what Delay had to say: “I have been running The Delay Show on television for the past 13 years and I double as the executive producer. Again, I am running other businesses with brands built from scratch and I supply nationwide.

“Talk of Delay Sardines, Delay Mackerel, Delay Tomato Paste and Delay Spaghetti. These are brands that were not in existence, I built them from scratch. I dreamt them, birthed them and nurtured them and they are now household brands. You can find them at the provision shop near your house and you can find them at Game.

“Being relevant after 13 years on television, building all these brands and making them household names nationwide and still making time for public speaking to encourage other women certainly make me outstanding. I am doing a lot of things at the same time and staying on top of them, so I am a Jack of all trades and master of all,” she stated.

Delay also hinted that she had two new brands coming up soon. “I have a food brand and a household brand coming very soon so everyone should look out for them.

“I am trying to venture into new territories so the Ghanaian consumer should be able to see me on television and feel me at home as well. Television is abstract but the products are tangible. I will also do more humanitarian work with my foundation,” she added.

Delay had some advice for the youth, saying: “I always say that there is no elevator to success. You have to use the staircase. People see all this glamour on social media and they are blinded.”

She concluded: “There is no easy way. I had to work for 13 years before being recognised. I didn’t start just yesterday. It is by dint of hard work, so you have to get into the gutter and dirty yourself.”
