Despite a prediction of a 2020 re-election by the Economic Intelligence Unit, the government says it will not relent on executing the change agenda which formed the basis upon which it was elected in 2016.

According to the EIU report released in May 2019, Ghana under the watch of President Akufo-Addo is experiencing strong economic growth better than the predecessor government led by former President John Dramani Mahama.

A similar report was released not long ago by the Political Science Department of the University of Ghana which also showed a better economic performance by the NPP.

At a press conference held Monday, the Information Minister Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah says the Akufo-Addo led administration sees the EIU report as positive feedback but added the government will continue to work assiduously in creating prosperity and equal opportunity for all as stated in our 2016 manifesto.

Outlining some of the areas the government will focus on, the Minister assured the government remains committed to fulfilling its campaign promises of building a strong economy through its flagship programs as well as to transform various aspects of our national life

He said government will maintain a strong economic foundation and outlook, ensure political stability and security is not compromised in the short term and in the run up to 2020 elections, ensure that gradually more and more Ghanaians benefit increasingly from the national cake.

Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah added the report is a reflection of the situation on the ground and confirms what a good number of Ghanaians already see and feel.

Government will continue to study these and other reports with a view to continuing the good work and review policies where necessary, he noted.
