Increased cash payments under the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) program have been announced by the Ghanaian government through the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP).
Due to this increase, the government has released GHC103,251,072.01, or one hundred and three million, two hundred and fifty-one thousand, seventy-two Ghana Cedis, to the households that are the beneficiaries of 324,073.
The 89th cycle (January and February 2024) of the LEAP cash grant payment is set to begin nationwide on Monday, July 1, 2024, according to a statement released by the ministry on Thursday, June 27.
The ministry clarified that the beneficiary households’ LEAP grant will now be adjusted upward, following a previous 100% increase in June 2023.
The ministry claims that this large increase in funding demonstrates the government’s dedication to reducing poverty and raising the standard of living for the most underprivileged people in the country.
“Between 2015 to 2023, the LEAP Grants paid to beneficiary households bi-monthly was as follows: One Member Household was entitled to GHe64.00, Two Member Households were entitled to GHC76.00, Three Member Households were entitled to GHC88.00 and finally Four and above Member Households were entitled to GHC106.00.”
The ministry conveyed gratitude to its partners for their ongoing support of the LEAP Program, which includes the World Bank, World Food Programme, Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office.
