Government says it has submitted for gazzetting and publication, the report and white paper on the Ayawaso West Wuogon Commission of Inquiry.
This was disclosed by the Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Friday.
The publication is in accordance with Article 280 Clause 3 of the 1992 Constitution which states “The President shall, subject to clause (4) of this article cause to be published the report of a commission of inquiry together with the White Paper on it within six months after the date of the submission of the report by the commission.”
The Commission of Inquiry was established on February 8, 2019 by President Akufo-Addo to investigate the cause of the violence associated with the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election held on January 31, 2019.
The three-member Commission chaired by former head of CHRAJ, Emile Short was to make a full, faithful and impartial enquiry into the violence and provide recommendations to assist government fight the culture vigilantism in the country.
The Commission members which included Law Professor, Henrietta Mensah-Bonsu and former IGP Patrick Kwarteng Acheampong had about a month to investigate the cause of the violence.
In the hearing, most of which was telecast live, the commission members interrogated key players including Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam George, National Security Minister Kan Dapaah and key personnel within the national security outfit, as well as media personnel and other members of the two political parties.
The Commission of Inquiry on March 14, 2019 submitted its report to the President.
After several months of waiting and with the six months constitutional deadline inching closer, many wondered when government would release the report of the Commission.
“After a careful study, Government has issued a white paper together with the report itself, has elected to publish in accordance with the Constitution” the Information Minister indicated Friday.
