The Ghana Medical Association is asking government to impose restrictions on mass gatherings including the ongoing state funeral for the late ex-president John Rawlings.

This, the Association believes will curtail the rampaging spread of the Corona virus in the country which has now hit, a devastating 600 cases per day.

In a press statement sighted by cedidollar.com the Association  is proposing a nine-point strategy to curtail the spread of the virus.

The proposal is as follows;

1. The COVID-19 pandemic is still a major health threat to all persons living in the country.

2. The pandemic has a potential of further weakening our already fragile health systems.

3. The non-adherence to the COVID-19 preventive measures has the potential to further escalate the spread of the disease.

4. Government should as a matter of urgency restrict social activities such as parties, churches, funerals, clubs and other social gatherings of such nature. The market should be regulated and as much as possible restricted.

5. Government should restrict the number of people attending the state funeral for the late H.E. Flt Jerry John Rawlings and encourage people to follow proceedings on Television and other social media platforms.

6. Government should ensure prompt, continues supply and adequate distributions of PPEs to all health workers in the various health institutions.

7. Suppliers and vendors of the various types of PPEs especially the face mask should not take advantage of the new surge of COVID-19 cases and the increase demand for their product by scaling up prices. This in the long ran will not inure to the benefit of the country in our quest to defeat the virus.

8. Ghanaians are entreated to get tested if they have flu like symptoms and as much as possible desist from self-medication.

9. Once again each and everyone should take their personal safety into their own hands by adhering strictly to all the COVID-19 safety protocols.

Oppong Nkrumah warns of lockdown
The Government has warned that there is a considerable possibility for the reintroduction of tougher restrictions to slow the spread of COVID-19 if the country’s active cases continue to rise.

Information Minister-designate, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah disclosed that government will also not hesitate to ensure stricter enforcement of the COVID-19 preventive protocols at the press briefing.
