Ghanaians must get back to their true identity- Trade Minister

Ghana has recently taken top spot as Africa’s largest gold producer. That’s according to the Minerals Commission.

The West African country hosts more estimated reserves than key gold-producing countries like Peru and Papua New Guinea. These factors make gold mining in Ghana a pursuit with great potential.

Speaking On behalf of the Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Commission, General Manager Daniel Bugyei said the title gives the sector the opportunity to position Ghana as a strong Jewellery hub in Africa and beyond.  He added that the Minerals Commission is dialoguing with multi-stakeholders to bring the vision to life.

He added that the commission is setting up policies that will reserve a portion of Gold Produce in the country for the downstream jewellery industry to benefit businesses.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Trade and Industries Alan Kyerematen, , the Deputy Minister  Honourable Robert Ahomka-Lindsay said, Ghanaians must get back to its grassroots as the largest gold producers of Africa.

According to him, what makes Ghanaians unique from other countries is its Gold, Cocoa, culture, Kente cloth and its historical legacy of the slave trade.

The Minister said Ghanaians must wake up to exploit in the best means of Gold for the benefit of everyone as the largest exporter of Gold in Africa.

According to him, since gold holds a unique position in the world in relation to currency, Ghanaians are supposed to play the biggest role in the currency base.

Hon Ahomka-Lindsay said going back to our root as the best gold producer in Africa will help leave a legacy for the next generation.

Touching on the opportunities of adding value to Gold, he said Ghanaians must put in efforts to support the agenda. Adding that, Government has putten the measure in place to build a refinery for the country.

The programme ended with jewellers showcasing their Jewellery products made from gold. Mrs Judy Crayem of the Rapport Services explained what motivated her to organize the jewellery catwalk event.

The Producer for the Jewellery said the Gold statement catwalk event is meant to revive Ghana’s passion for the Gold and the jewellery industry.
