The African Athletics Championship will be held in Ghana in 2026.

The University of Ghana Stadium serves as the competition’s host site.

Ghana Athletics confirmed the success of the country’s bid to host in a message posted on the federation’s X (previous) Twitter page.

Ghana’s bid was accepted by the Confederation of African Athletics, which then announced Ghana as the host country for the subsequent event.

Deputy General Bawa Majid of the National Sports Authority, President Bawa Fuseini of Ghana Athletics, and Vice President Charles Osei Asibey of Ghana Athletics comprised the bid team for Ghana.

This news precedes Ghana’s entry into the African Athletics Championship, which takes place in Douala, Cameroon, from June 20 to June 26 of this year.

The 18 athletes representing Ghana are led by high jumper Rose Yeboah, who is headed to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, and sprinters Fuseini Ibrahim and Isaac Botsio, who will compete in the 100 meters.

The competition doubles as a qualifying for the Olympics in Paris in 2024.
