Ghana will seek to break the over 30-years AFCON trophy hiatus when the Nations Cup begins in June this year but have a Cameroon hurdle to cross early on in the Group F.
In a draw conducted in Cairo, Friday, the Black Stars were paired with Guinea Bissau and Benin as the two other group members.
Ghana and Cameroon, who are defending champions, are favorites to qualify from the group but will first have to settle old score when the two open the Group F encounter.
Between the two, the nations Cup trophy has been won nine times with Cameroon winning just one more than the Black Stars.
Ghana last won the nations Cup in 1982 but have made six successive semi-final berths all without the trophy.
They will seek to break that jinx in a tournament which for the first time has been increased from 16 to 24.
The proverbial group of death is Group D which has Cote D’Ivoire, South Africa, Morocco and Namibia. It will be interesting which of the two teams will make it to the next stage of the competition.
In Group A, host Egypt play against DR Congo, Uganda and Zimbabwe.
In Group B, west African giants Nigeria will come up against Guinea, Madagascar and Burundi. The three time Africa champions are expected to dominate the group.
Group C have Algeria and Senegal squaring off in what is expected to be a thrilling encounter. The two remaining teams are Kenya and Tanzania.
Finally in Group E, Tunisia, Mali, Mauritania, and Angola will face other for a place in the last 16.
The competition will be held from 21 June to 19 July 2019.
