Ghana Association of Bankers contributes GHS2m to COVID-19 Fund

The Ghana Association of Bankers in a bid to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on individuals and businesses in Ghana, has contributed two million Ghana cedis to the Ghana COVID-19 Private Sector Fund.

The amount is GAB’s contribution towards the construction of a 100-bed COVID-19 Infectious Disease and Isolation Facility, located at the Ga East Municipality Hospital.

The project has been estimated to cost USD3.5 million. GAB has already supported government’s COVID-19 fight with GHS10 million.

It has also provided food to a segment of the Headporters (Kayayei) within the Accra metropolis; negotiated with the Bank of Ghana, Ministry of Finance and member banks to set up gross loans up to GHS 3 billion to Pharmaceutical companies, while reducing interest rates by 200 basis points.

The ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of the100-bed COVID-19 Infectious Disease and Isolation Facility at the Ga East Municipality Hospital, had President Akufo-Addo as guest of honour, who delivered a virtual keynote address.

The Ghana Association of Bankers is the country’s leading mouthpiece for the universal banking sector, currently representing the interests of 23- member banks, as well as the ARB Apex Bank, the umbrella bank for the Rural & Community Banks in Ghana.
