Game of Thrones Final Season – “Ending Won’t Be Happy”

By : Kofi Kafui Sampson on 23 Jan 2019, 12:14

With the end of Game of Thrones almost upon us (Season 8 premieres on April 14), speculation over the final six episodes is at all time high. Will fans be happy with the ending? Will the wait have been worth it? The cast and crew haven’t revealed much, but a recent interview suggests that not everyone will be happy with the way Game of Thrones Season 8 finishes the series.

During a recent appearance on The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show, Kit Harington was asked point blank if he was happy with the way that Game of Thrones ends.

“It’s like when you finish a book,” he said. “You’re not happy it’s over. You have this grief that it’s over, and that’s exactly the same with this nine years of doing this show, and no matter how it does end, there’s always going to be a bit of you that goes, ‘Oh, there’s this loss around it.’”

As for the ending itself, Harrington added that at the very least, fans should feel “satisfied” after the final episode of Game of Thrones Season 8 airs.

“Maybe not happy but very satisfied,” he said. “I’m so excited for people to see it. I think it’s going to be extraordinary. Hopefully it will change TV again like it did originally and break boundaries.”

Fans may feel the same way. After all, it’s unlikely that every main character will survive the final season, and one or more deaths could leave viewers disappointed with the outcome (though if you’re expecting everyone to survive Season 8 you clearly haven’t been paying attention). So if the series does resolve all or at least most of its unanswered questions, people are sure to at least feel somewhat “satisfied.”

There may also be some “grief” since fans have enjoyed speculating about upcoming episodes during hiatuses and chatting with others about their theories. Once the series is over, that will end as well.

However, right now, HBO is keeping almost everything about the final season a secret. While we’ve seen a couple brief clips of a reunion and meeting in Winterfell, the only other teasers so far don’t actually feature footage from Season 8. We’re still waiting on an official trailer, though we know there’s at least one coming before the Season 8 premiere.
