Regarding the issues raised in a previous post concerning thefts from unaccompanied baggage at Kotoka International Airport (KIA), the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has responded.
According to the post, a large number of irate people were complaining about missing things from their luggage at the KIA baggage complaints office.
The article recommended that the GACL implement strict access restrictions to stop unauthorized people from entering locations where passenger luggage is stored.
In a statement released on Sunday, June 16, the GACL management responded by saying that it had “taken note of the concerns raised in the publication and is taking the necessary steps to immediately investigate and address it.”
“Furthermore, plans are already in motion to restrict access to non-travellers and unauthorized personnel at security zones, such as baggage hold areas.”
The communiqué further stated that there will be harsh legal repercussions for anyone found guilty of stealing or extortion—acts that degrade the quality of travel for passengers and damage GACL’s credit.
“Management wishes to assure the general public of its commitment to ensure that operations at the airport are safe and secure for our travellers,” the statement concluded.
