FIFA

World football governing body, FIFA has approved Ghana’s request to play an International friendly against the Elephants of Cote D’Ivoire subject to observing all COVID-19 protocols.

This is in compliance with the regulations governing International matches. It is imperative that Member Associations seek authorization from FIFA for all tier 1 matches according to the Ghana Football Association.

The Black Stars will test their strength against the Elephants on Saturday, June 12, at the Cape Coast stadium five days after the encounter against Atlas Lions of Morocco, both of which are to prepare the Stars for their September qualifier against Bafana Bafana.

The upcoming games will be used to assess players ahead of the September assignments as Coach C.K Akonnor’s side has been training at Cape Coast stadium ahead of the two matches.

Ghana’s last encounter with Morocco came at the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Gabon when Michael Essien and Sulley Muntari scored to ensure a 2-0 win on home soil in their final group game.

The Black Stars last met Cote d’Ivoire in the final of the 2015 Afcon finals in Equatorial Guinea. After a 0-0 draw following extra-time time, the game headed into penalties where the Ivorians won 9-8.
