Edward Boateng TOR

President Nana Akufo-Addo has appointed Ghana’s former Ambassador to China, Edward Boateng to head Tema Oil Refinery (TOR).

His appointment followed months of sustained agitations by workers against the management over allegations of mismanagement and the accumulation of statutory payments, among others.

Mr. Edward Boateng is the fourth Managing Director (MD) of TOR in five years after former MD, Mr. Francis Boateng, and his deputy, Mr. Herbert Ato Morrison, were relieved of their posts last week.

The Diplomat is expected to forefront a profitability improvement plan that hinges on leveraging the support of the shareholder — the government, through the Ministries of Energy and Finance, as well as the State Interest and Governance Authority (SIGA) — to recapitalize the refinery and generally strengthen its operations with policies.

Background:

Edward Boateng is a Ghanaian diplomat and a member of the New Patriotic Party New Patriotic Party of Ghana. He is currently Ghana’s ambassador to China.

In June 2017, President Nana Akuffo-Addo named Edward Boateng as Ghana’s ambassador to China. He was among twenty two other distinguished Ghanaians who were named to head various diplomatic Ghanaian mission in the world.
