Black stars midfielder Edmund Addo will miss Ghana’s anticipated crucial FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 playoff ties against the Super Eagles of Nigeria due to injury.
The Sheriff Tiraspol midfielder was part of Coach Otto Addo’s 27 man squad gearing to face the Nigerians in a two-legged mammoth clash for a place at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
Addo, has been training with the team having reported to camp on Monday. However, a statement from the GFA states that scans have revealed that he cannot take part in the two matches following a thigh injury.
‘’Edmund complained of pain in the right thigh so we decided to take a scan to know the real situation’’ Team Doctor Adam Baba told ghanafa.org.
‘’Unfortunately the scan results revealed that he has a tear in the right thigh and would need two to three weeks to recover so I informed the Coach about it and the decision was that we should allow him to travel to Moldova for treatment’’ he added.
The Moldova based player is expected to travel to Moldova on Thursday for treatment
Ghana underperformed at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations following an early exit from the Tournament. Due to this, the senior national team would be aiming to appease their fans by earning a fourth World Cup appearance and claim bragging rights at the expense of Nigeria.
The Black stars have qualified for three FIFA World Cup tournaments; 2006, 2010, and 2014.
Whereas, the Super Eagles of Nigeria will be hoping to qualify for the global football showpiece for the seventh time and, since 1994, have missed only one of seven editions.
The Winner of the two legs will progress to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 tournament.
