Actor and failed parliamentary candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress, John Setor Dumelo has written to the District Electoral Officer of Ayawaso West Wuogon demanding a recount of the ballots in the just ended polls in the constituency.

Dumelo who lost the election to the New Patriotic Party’s Lydia Alhassan insists that there were several irregularities recorded in the exercise.

According to Dumelo, there were instances where his votes were swapped with votes polled by his contender.

“I humbly write to your office seeking for a recount of all ballot boxes across the constituency. This is due to several irregularities that have been identified in some polling centres. One of such irregularities was swapping of my figures and that of the NPP candidate’s figures at polling centres.
Counting on your usual co-operation,” he requested in a letter addressed to the EC District Officer and shared on social media.

Madam Alhassan who is the incumbent MP for Ayawaso West Wuogon won the poll with 39,851 votes while John Dumelo managed with 37,778 votes.

John Dumelo had earlier expressed hope of winning the poll.

He claimed that “internal projections suggest that he was winning the seat”.
