Dr. George Akufo-Dampare

Reports that Dr. George Akufo-Dampare, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), has been asked to take a leave of absence have been denied by the Ghana Police Service.

According to reports, the IGP was ordered to take a leave of absence and delegate his responsibilities to his deputy, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, who is purportedly connected to the incident surrounding the leaked tapes from 2023.

As per President Nana Akufo-Addo’s directive, Dr. Akufo-Dampare is still dedicated to managing the Police Service, the Police Service has asked the public to ignore these rumors.

The Director of Public Affairs, ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, signed a statement confirming that the IGP remains in office and continues to perform his duties.

The Police Service has advised the public to ignore the rumors and reassured them that there is no truth to the stories of the IGP’s dismissal.
