Alhaji Aliko Dangote

Nigeria’s Aliko Dangote has significantly moved up in the World billionaires’ list as he emerged as the 63rd richest person in the world, with an estimated worth of $16.6 billion. His previous ranking on the billionaires’ list was 103rd in 2018. Dangote, who remains the richest man in Africa for the 8th year running, was the only African on the list of the top 100 billionaires, as released by Bloomberg on 5th March 2019 in its yearly billionaires list.

Mr. Dangote owns sub-Saharan Africa’s biggest cement producer, Dangote Cement, with additional interests in sugar, salt, flour, fertiliser and packaged food.

Technology entrepreneur and founder of Amazon, Jeff Bezos, remains the richest in the world with $136 billion in his kitty while Bill Gates and Warren Buffett followed as second and third respectively with $98.5 billion and $83.2 billion on the world billionaires chart, dominated by Americans.

No Ghanaian made it to the list of top 500 billionaires.  Other Africans on the list were South African Nicky Oppenheimer (217th) worth $7.03B; Egyptian Nassef Sawiris (218th) with a net worth of $7.01B; Johann Rupert (226th) worth $6.89B; and the food and beverages magnate from South Africa, Natie Kirsh (264th) with a net worth of $6.10B.
