The Black Stars of Ghana have been placed in Group E of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations, Côte d’Ivoire 2023 alongside Madagascar, Angola and Central African Rep.
The draw held in Johannesburg, South Africa on Tuesday evening, provided a tricky duel for the Stars who would have to use these matches as a preparatory ground for the World Cup, Qatar 2022.
The draw was conducted by African football legends, former South Africa defender Lucas Radebe and ex Côte d’Ivoire forward Solomon Kalou.
The Senior National side made a disastrous outing in the Cameroon 2022 AFCON following a first round exit from the competition. Defeats to lowly Comoros and Morocco meant the Stars had to take an early shower from the tournament.
In other groups, hosts Côte d’Ivoire are in Group H with Zambia, Comoros and Lesotho. Only one team will qualify from this group, alongside the hosts. Comoros who were one of the surprise packages at the delayed 2021 showpiece in Cameroon are seeking for a second consecutive qualification.
