Ben Fokuo

Ghana’s U-20 female national team coach, Ben Fokuo believes his charges are on course to seal a spot in the upcoming U20 FIFA World Cup Costa Rica 2022.

Ghana defeated the young Crested Cranes of Uganda 2-1 in the first leg encounter in Kitende on Saturday.

Two goals from Salamatu Abdulai and Grace Anima were enough to give Ghana an advantage going into the second league.

2-0 down, the Ugandans staged a fight back but could not find the net until Najjemba eventually reduced the deficit with a late consolation four minutes from full-time.

Despite a first leg defeat, Uganda will seek to keep alive their maiden World Cup qualification dream when they visit Cape Coast for the second leg of the fourth round in a fortnight.

”We corrected the lapses that we saw in the Zambia game and they did exactly what we told them. We’ve not qualified yet, we need to review our performance here and make sure we get things right when we get back home ahead of the second leg to ensure we qualify” Fokuo said.

The FIFA Women’s U-20 World Cup is slated for Costa Rica next year.

Ghana are chasing a record sixth straight FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup participation. The Black Princesses made their first World Cup appearance in 2010 and have gone ahead to play in four tournaments on the spin. (2010, 2012,2014, 2016, 2018).
