Frank Lampard has been dismissed by Chelsea on Monday following a dismal slump in form that sees them sit ninth in the Premier League table.

Former Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel is in pole position to replace Lampard with talks at an advanced stage.

Lampard was appointed head coach at Stamford Bridge in July 2019 and during his first season guided the club to Champions League qualification and the FA Cup final.

He was supported massively by owner, Roman Abramovich in the summer transfer market as Chelsea spent more than £200m on seven new signings, including big-money transfers for Kai Havertz and Timo Werner.

The club statement confirming the sacking read: ‘This has been a very difficult decision, and not one that the owner and the Board have taken lightly.

‘We are grateful to Frank for what he has achieved in his time as Head Coach of the Club.

Lampard is Chelsea’s all-time record scorer, with 211 goals for the club between 2001 and 2014, and is also joint-seventh on the list of England players with the most caps, having made 106 appearances for his country over 15 years from 1999.
