Charles Gyamfi adjudged 2019 National Best Farmer

A 58-year-old farmer, Charles Gyamfi, has been adjudged the 2019 National Best Farmer.

Mr. Gyamfi, from the Tano North district of the Ahafo Region, was honoured at the 2019 Farmers’ Day celebration held in the Volta Regional capital, Ho.

Abdulai Atiku Seidu, Upper West Region, was the 1st runner-up while the 2nd runner-up was Nana Yaw Sarpong Serebuo from the Ashanti Region.

The overall winner, Charles Gyamfi, who was in 2018 named the national best cocoa farmer, has over two decades’ experience in farming.

He produces cassava, cocoyam, cereals, okro, pepper, garden eggs, mango, citrus and cashew.

He also rears cattle, goats, sheep and manages two fish ponds as well as 100 boxes of beehives.

In addition, Mr Gyamfi also rears cattle, goats and layers.

He also has a number of beehives, fishponds and snail farm.

He took home a prize money of $100,000 in cedi equivalent.

Mr. Gyamfi takes over from James Obeng Boateng who won the 34th edition in 2018.

Other award winners on the day were Philomena Tenge from the Eastern Region, who won the national best female farmer award.
