Al Ahly

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has rejected the Red Devils of Al Ahly’s application to postpone the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League final.

This comes after CAF received a letter from the Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports referring to the request by the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) and Al Ahly SC for a neutral venue of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions Final.

CAF in their response stated that its Organization is obliged to implement the Executive Committee (EXCO) decision that was taken in July 2019 which stated that the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League winner would be determined by a one legged final.

Also they were bound by the CAF and FIFA rules which do not allow competition rules to be changed once the competition has started.

The hosting of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League final was awarded to Morocco after Senegal, which was the only other country that had fulfilled the hosting requirements, withdrew its bid.

However, Egypt did submit a bid to host the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup Final but did not fulfil the host country bidding criteria.

The TotalEnergies CAF Champions League final will kick-off on Monday 30 May 2022 at 20h00 local time, 19h00 GMT.
