The Confederation of African Football on Wednesday said it will launch investigation into alleged improper conduct by President of the Fédération Camerounaise de Football, Samuel Eto’o.
According to CAF, the body received written statements from several Cameroonian football stakeholders to look into and investigate certain alleged improper conduct by the former Barcelona forward.
CAF added that ”it will look into these requests based on in accordance with the CAF Statutes and Regulations, Whilst the allegations are prima facie serious, Mr. Samuel Eto’o is presumed to be innocent until an appropriate judicial body concludes otherwise” CAF revealed on Wednesday.
During the ongoing investigation, CAF has committed to maintaining confidentiality and refraining from any further public announcements until the proceedings are concluded.
Eto’o as a result of his decision to promote a club the from second Cameroonian division to the top league, he is alleged to have been involved in match-fixing scandal as reported by French daily L’Equipe.
According to the source, Eto’o may be heard saying, “Opopo must go up to the first division,” on recordings made in January of 2023. This is our goal (…) This is our Federation. Victoria United will go up.
“Stay calm, we will grant you the three points and we suspend the referee. But let me at least go back to Cameroon. He arrived on the 3rd (January) at night. So we’ll see you in the office on the 4th. Anyway, I’m going to rule out and disable this referee”, he went on to say in the leaked talks.
