Kotoko Fans attack journalists

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has condemned an incident that took place on Wednesday 23 June 2021, during the Ghana Premier League fixture between Asante Kotoko and Karela United.

Fans of the Porcupine Warriors invaded the media area and attacked a journalist, Andy Abraham Mantey, accusing of bias commentary.

Mantey was heckled and thrown out of the Len Clay Stadium by the agitated fans of Kotoko for claiming the penalty awarded against Karela United was a dubious call.

CAF in a statement, condemned the incident and called for respect of media working areas and also protection of journalists covering matches.

“CAF calls on the local authorities to take appropriate actions and also reaffirms independence of media to report on matches without fear or favour’, the statement said.

Fabio Gama’s 68th-minute penalty proved the separating factor between the Porcupine Warriors and Karela United as Kotoko won 2-1.
