The champions of the Ghana Premier League, Medeama SC, suffered a 3-0 defeat in the hands of Al Ahly in their opening CAF Champions League match in Cairo.
Medeama kept the defending champions at bay for the majority of the first half but crumbled later on.
After the break, Ahly made a few tactical adjustments that led to a 66th-minute goal from Kahraba, a 75th-minute goal from Hussein El Shatat, and an 88th-minute goal from Salah Mohsen to give Ahly the win that puts them tied for first place in Group C with Algeria’s CR Belouizdad.
After the first matchday, neither Medeama nor Young Africans had any points. They will be hoping to turn things around in the matchday two matches. At the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, Medeama will play CR Belouizdad, while Young Africans will take on the difficult task of hosting Al Ahly.
