Black Stars head coach C.K Akonnor has tasked Ghanaians to rally behind Baba Rahman following backlash from fans regarding his performance against South Africa and Sao Tome.
The on-loan Chelsea left back came under heavy criticism against South Africa last Thursday at the FNB stadium in Johannesburg. However, he redeemed himself with a face saving goal against Sao Tome and Principe, his debut goal for the national team.
Akonnor believes the criticism of the player is too harsh and insists the left-back deserves to be supported as he continues to work on rediscovering his form after a difficult period in his career.
“Baba Rahman has been through a lot of injuries and other things. He got injured here with Black Stars when he was in the AFCON [Gabon 2017].” He said.
“Who will be the best people to help him?
“I think it is a little bit too harsh with the way we criticize him. He is on his way to be better and he will do well in the coming days.
“He’s got a club. He’s going to play regularly and things will change for him and I think we are a little bit too hard on him,” Akonnor concluded.
Rahman has been capped 31 times by Ghana and scored one goal.
