President Akufo-Addo has charged internal auditors to live up to expectations in the discharge of their duties by ensuring that all avenues which lead to leakages of the public purse are blocked.
He expressed concern that due to complacency and complicity on the part of internal auditors, the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament continues to be saddled with several cases of financial malfeasance recorded in the Ministries, Departments and Agencies leading to public embarrassment.
President Akufo-Addo expressed this sentiment at the maiden edition of the District Auditors’ Conference in Kumasi.
The 2021 edition of the District Auditors’ Conference was under the theme: “Ensuring the Efficiency and Effectiveness of the State Auditor in a Digitized Economy”. It was organized under the auspices of the Internal Audit Agency.
The Auditor-General, Mr Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu expressed the readiness of internal auditors to clean the system.
The fight against corruption, according to President Akufo-Addo, would make strides, ” if district auditors work as expected of them”.
The President also spoke about digitization of the economy to ensure effective and efficient mobilization of national resources.
