Former Black stars midfielder, Emmanuel Agyemang Badu has expressed his worry over the Senior National team’s lack of cohesion ahead of their crucial two leg FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 play offs tie against Nigeria.
The Black stars recently underperformed at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations following an early exit from the Tournament. Due to this, the senior national team would be aiming to appease their fans by earning a fourth World Cup appearance and claim bragging rights at the expense of their West African neighbours, Nigeria.
The list which was released on Tuesday morning, three days to the first leg of the crucial tie, has eight players who were not part of the AFCON Squad list in Cameroon.
According to Badu, the Ghana squad which was assembled some days ago will find it difficult to dominate the Super Eagles and that could ultimately cost Coach Otto Addo’s men.
“Seriously speaking the only option we have now to beat Nigeria is through individual brilliance.
“We don’t have a team right now and I have been saying this for the past two years.
“We have quality players but we don’t have a team.
“It is a new team so they won’t have cohesion and the required teamwork.
“The national team is not like the club side and so you don’t always get a chance to train with players.
“The team was assembled in three days making it very difficult for the coach to get the cohesion he needs.
“So prayers, great support from the fans and individual brilliance is what we need to rely on,” he told Citi Sports.
Ghana have qualified for three FIFA World Cup tournaments; 2006, 2010, and 2014.
Whereas, the Super Eagles of Nigeria will be hoping to qualify for the global football showpiece for the seventh time and, since 1994, have missed only one of seven editions.
The Winner of the two legs will progress to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 tournament.
