Black Stars return home after dramatic victory over Mali in World Cup qualifier

The Black Stars have returned from Bamako, where they emerged victorious on Matchday 3 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Mali, 2-1.

On Thursday at Stade du 26 Mars in Bamako, Ghana defeated Mali 2-1 thanks to a goal by Jordan Ayew in the 94th minute. At 1:15 in the morning, ASKY Airlines’ contingent from Ghana landed at the Nana Agyemang Prempeh I International Airport in Kumasi.

The squad will keep getting ready for the next match, which is set for Monday, June 10, 2024, against the Central African Republic.

After Kamory Doumbia gave Mali the lead in the 45th minute, Ghana had to work hard to win the points. In the 58th minute, Ernest Nuamah tied the score with a powerful header. However, in the 94th minute, Jordan Ayew and fellow replacement Abdul Fatawu Issahaku combined to score the game-winning goal.

Group I leaders Comoros, who visit Madagascar on Friday, June 7, 2024, and the Black Stars are tied on points (6). On Monday, June 10, 2024, Ghana will play Central African Republic at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
