According to John Mensah, a former captain of the Black Stars, head coach Otto Addo is getting good results out of Ghana’s national men’s football team.

Mensah, who attended the 2024 Ghana Football Awards, where Mohammed Kudus, a midfielder for West Ham United, won Footballer of the Year for the second consecutive year, lauded his old teammate subsequently.

In Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches, Addo led his team to victories of 2-1 over Mali and 4-3 over Central African Republic in his first official games after taking over as captain.

The former defender for AFC Sunderland, who participated with Addo in Ghana’s inaugural FIFA World Cup in 2006, is optimistic that Addo would put Ghana on the correct path to qualify for the 2026 tournament.

“It’s not easy with the way the team was before he came and now he is managing to put the players back together as a unit and looking at the games they played in the qualifiers, I think they did very well. We all have to put our trust (in him) and support him and I think he will continue to do well” the former Sunderland defender said.
