In anticipation of the December elections, the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council summoned Bafour Owiredu Agyarko Minta II, the Ankobeahene of the Begoro Stool, for allegedly endorsing National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama.

The summons is in response to a petition that Otweresohene/Odau, Okyeame Owusu, and Daasebre Ofosu Kwabi Ayebiahwe filed against him, alleging that Nana Owiredu Agyarko was involved in partisan politics.

The petitioners claim that Bafour Owiredu Agyarko Minta II’s partisan politics during the former President’s recent campaign tour of the Eastern Region have tarnished the reputation of the Begoro Stool.

Additionally, the petition stated that during Mahama’s tour, he met with traditional leaders and received their endorsement. This Ankobeahene is said to have represented the Nananom and the people of Begoro.

Also, according to the statement, the chief warned the people of Begoro to be on guard against the current government’s purported plan to rig elections, claiming that Nananom had called upon the gods by offering libations in protest of the party’s violation of the eight maxims.

The matter’s hearing has been rescheduled for February 19, 2024, instead of February 12, 2024.

The petitioners are requesting a number of things, according to Abuakwa Traditional State Secretary Dan Marfo Ofori Attah, who confirmed the summons to Citi News. These include an order of destoolment as Ankobeahene of Begoro, a declaration nullifying the respondent’s conduct, a public apology to the petitioners and the people of Begoro, and punitive customary sanctions if found liable.
