Emile Short Commission

A man said to be the ring leader of the National Democratic Congress vigilante group, the Hawks has denied any association with the group.

Despite being seen wearing paraphernalia of the NDC vigilante group, the huge, imposing figure Sedodi Theophilus told the three member Emile Short Commission of enquiry investigating the cause of the violence in the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election that the Hawks is alien to him

Hawks launch

Launched in the Ashanti Region as an NDC vigilante group, the hawks made the headlines for all the wrong reasons last month when its members allegedly shot to death an NDC member during a meeting with the NDC national executives.

At least six of them are on the police wanted list for the murder.

In some pictures, Sedodi Theophilus is seen walking very close to ex-president John Mahama providing some amount of security.

When the Director of National Security Colonel Michael Opoku appeared before the Short Commission he named Sedodi Theophilus as one of the members of the hawks who caused trouble during the Ayawaso West by-election.

He named him as the leader of the Hawks group, adding the Hawks is googled, the picture of Sedodi Theophilus pops up.

But when Sedodi appeared before the Commission, Thursday his account was different.

Traffic Warden

He said he only served as a traffic warden during the NDC unity walk in Kumasi and was given a t-shirt with the logo of the hawks written on it.

He denied any knowledge of the existence of the group.

On his role in the violence at the Ayawaso by-election, Sedodi Theophilus also denied any involvement claiming he was there to distribute food and other items to the party’s polling agents.

Even though a police report after his arrest for the Ayawaso violence described him as member of an NDC security group, Sedodi remained adamant.

When he was reminded by the Commission chair that he was speaking on oath and could be prosecuted for perjury if he was found to be lying the witness insisted he was speaking the truth.

He said he was the Ablekuma North executive member of the NDC but never of the Hawks or any vigilante group within the NDC.
