The Ghana Football Association has announced the demotion of Ghana Premier League giants, Obuasi Asantigold after being found guilty of match manipulation in their 2020/21 matchweek 34 GPL game against International Allies.
On 17th July 2021, Ashantigold SC hosted Inter Allies FC in the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League Matchday 34 game at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium.
Post match reactions from Social media reveals that the game was fixed to fulfill a correct score of 5 goals to 1 in favor of Ashantigold SC.
The match eventually ended in 7 goals in favour of the Miners.
Inter Allies defender Hashmin Musah confessed to having scored two intentional own goals on purpose to alter a results planned with a betting syndicate.
Consequently Ashanti Gold, released a statement stressing that they had no involvement in the alleged match-fixing scandal.
The President of Ashantigold SC Dr. Kwaku Frimpong and his son, Emmanuel Frimpong ( CEO of Asantigold SC ) have been served with 10 years and 8 years ban from football activities respectively in accordance with Article 34.5(d)(i) of the Ghana Premier League Regulations 2019 .
A fine of GHc100,000 is imposed on Dr. Kwaku Frimpong as well as a fine of GHc 50,000 is imposed on the Club’s CEO, Emmanuel Frimpong.
Eight players of the club have also been banned for two years each after being found guilty of match manipulation, while a further five players have also been handed four year bans for failure to appear before the GFA’s Disciplinary Committee.
