April 24 declared public holiday to mark Eid-ul-Fitr

Government has declared has declared Monday, April 24 as a public holiday, a statutory Public Holiday.

“The general public is hereby notified that Saturday, 22nd April 2023, marks Eid-ul-Fitr which is a statutory holiday.”

Eid-ul-Fitr is an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide to mark the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting (sawm).

The holiday celebrates the conclusion of the 29 or 30 days of dawn-to-sunset fasting during the entire month of Ramadan.

The end of Ramadan is a big celebration called ‘Eid al-Fitr’: The Festival of the Breaking of the Fast. Muslims celebrate the end of fasting and thank Allah for helping them to be strong enough to fast. Eid al-Fitr officially begins when the first sight of the new moon is seen in the sky.
