The Anglican priest at the centre of the kissing controversy, Father Balthazar Obeng, has been sacked at the St Monica’s College of Education in Asante Mampong.
His dismissal follows soon after the St Monica’s College of Education in Asante Mampong. His dismissal follows the conclusions at a crunch meeting convened by school authorities in Asante Mampong over a kissing incident that went viral on Monday.
The embattled Priest was seen in a viral video kissing three female students before a cheering congregation.
However, the third lady seemed unwilling but eventually gave in to the deed.
Some civil society organizations say the priest should be prosecuted in accordance with Ghana Education Service’s (GES) anti-sexual harassment policy.
Consequently, the Anglican Church of Ghana released a statement stating their displeasure and promises to mete out appropriate sanctions in accordance with the norms and values of the Anglican Church.
“The Church is saddened by the news and wish to state expressly that, thorough investigation has immediately been instituted into the matter and the action of the said priest would be dealt with in accordance with the norms and values of the Anglican Communion where morality is extremely revered in the church.”
Education think tank Africa Education Watch, appalled by his gesture, they followed up with a petition to the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to investigate the Anglican priest for openly kissing female students of school and apply sanctions where necessary.
In a latest development, CediDollar.com reports that the school has relieved of his duties. As a matter of fact Father Obeng Larbi ceases to be the Chaplain and lawyer of the school until further notice.
This was revealed in a closed-door meeting with the students and subsequently confirmed by Acting Principal, Dr Okyere Korankye.
