Black stars skipper Andre Ayew is on the brink of joining Qatari side Al Sadd, the club has announced.

Ayew became a free agent following his departure from English Championship side Swansea City in June after failed bid to return to the Premier League.

According to media report, the 31-year-old will be paid around $220,000 monthly by the Qatari champions who are coached by Barcelona legend Xavi Hernandez.

It is the first time the former Swansea star will play professional club football outside Europe.

A host of European clubs, including Turkish club Goztepe were rumoured to be interested in signing the former Jack Army forward.

However, Al Sadd appear to have won the race, announcing on Twitter that they had reached an agreement to sign Ayew.

“Al Sadd have reached an agreement to sign Ghanaian star Andre Ayew,” the Qatari outfit announced on social media.

“The player will arrive in Doha in the morning to complete the routine procedures, followed by the signing of the contract and the official announcement.”

Last season, Ayew made 46 league appearances for Swansea City who reached the Championship promotion play-off final where they lost to Brentford for a second consecutive season.

He netted 17 goals ending the season as the club’s top scorer, just as he did the season earlier.

The U20 World cup winner formerly also played for West Ham United, Turkish side Fenerbahce and French clubs Olympique Marseille, Lorient and Arles-Avignon.
