Richard Jakpa, the third accused in the Ambulance case involving Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has made allegations that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has labeled it as a plot to sabotage the trial.
Frank Davies, the chairman of the NPP Legal Committee, refuted Jakpa’s allegations in an address to media in Accra on Tuesday, May 28, saying they were orchestrated to undermine Ato Forson’s prosecution and damage the integrity and character of the Attorney General.
Regardless of their socioeconomic status, public officials must be held equally accountable for how they spend public resources, according to Davies.
Additionally, Davies denounced as inappropriate the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) remarks regarding the purported tape.
He claimed that the NDC’s activities are meant to keep the general population from reaching well-informed conclusions.
“The latest allegation by Richard Jakpa, the 3rd accused and an associate of Cassiel Ato Forson in this botched Ambulance procurement transaction, is therefore only a further ploy, contrived to curtail the prosecution of Ato Forson and smear the Attorney General’s integrity and reputation.
“But this would also not see the light of day as we believe firmly that public officials, regardless of
social standing must be equally accountable for their use of public resources. Needless to say the law is no respecter of persons.”
Mr. Davies deemed the NDC’s remarks regarding the purported footage to be inappropriate.
“It is unacceptable, that Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, runs a commentary over the alleged tape calculated to prevent you the Ghanaian people from making your own deduction and reasoned judgment.”
