The President Nana Akufo Addo has accepted the resignation from office of the Food and Agric Minister, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto.
Akufo-Addo thanked the outgoing Agric Minister for his services to his government and to the country, and wished him well in his future endeavours.
“The President of Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has accepted the resignation from office of Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto as Minister for Food and Agriculture. President Akufo-Addo conveyed his sincere gratitude to Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto for his services to government and to the nation, and wished him the best of luck in his future endeavours”, a statement from the Presidency indicates.
The Member of Parliament for the Kwadaso Constituency in the Asanti Region stepped down as Agric Minister to pursue his Presidential ambition ahead of the NPP primary election coming up later this year.
Dr. Akoto’s resignation comes days after former Former Trade and Industry Minister Alan Kyerematen also resigned from Office to focus on his presidential ambitions ahead of the next general elections in 2024.
Meanwhile, the President has tasked the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Mavis Hawa Koomson to act as caretaker Minister at the Ministry of Food and Agriculture until a substantive replacement is made.
