Ghanaian fuel tanker drivers have decided to end their sit-down strike due to unsatisfactory working conditions.

The Ghana National Petroleum Tanker Drivers Union, which is demanding better working conditions, particularly with regard to compensation, announced an indefinite sit-down strike on Tuesday.

But the tanker drivers called off the sit-down strike in a communiqué following a meeting with all parties involved.

According to the announcement, the framework for their compensation has been approved, and by the end of June 2024, the framework’s implementation is scheduled to begin.

Union members stated in a press conference that the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) and the sector Ministry have refused to implement a previously agreed-upon policy framework intended to improve their salaries and other working conditions. The policy has been pending since November 2023.
