Errors in the daily voter registration figures published by the Electoral Commission (EC) in the ongoing limited voter registration exercise have been corrected.

At the conclusion of the fourth day of the exercise, the EC released a press release stating that 143,014 eligible voters had registered.

The EC amended the day three figure for the Upper East region and released a follow-up statement less than 24 hours after the day four figures were released.

“The Electoral Commission has noted some mistakes in the daily voter registration figures earlier published. The mistakes appeared in the total registered figures stated for days two and three although the individual regional figures were accurate, while the day three figure for Upper East was repeated for day four. All these have been corrected.”

The EC clarified, however, that “at the end of the four days the total number of registered voters remains 143, 014” because the errors had no impact on its overall tabulation.

Beginning on Tuesday, May 7, the registration drive is aimed at first-time voters and those who want to apply for a voter card.

The exercise is expected to end on May 27, 2024, after 21 days.

After the exercise, it is anticipated that 623,000 new voters will have been added to the voter rolls.

The registration numbers are broken down regionally as follows: 17,837 voters have registered in the Greater Accra region; 3,948 in the North East; 6,691 in the Upper East; 10,373 in the Northern region; 4,900 in Bono; 5,118 in Bono East; 7,512 in Volta; 5,256 in the Upper West; 14,884 in Eastern; 15,434 in Central; 3,889 in Ahafo; and 25,558 in Ashanti.

5,638 from the Western North, 4,206 from Oti, 2,989 from Savannah, and 8,781 from the Western region make up the remaining registrations. In order to meet its registration goal before the exercise concludes, the EC keeps up its efforts.
