After finishing matchday-27 with a 2-0 victory over Medeama, Berekum Chelsea moved up to fifth place in the standings on Monday.
Mezack Afriyie and Hubert Gyau Banahene each scored twice in the second half to give Samuel Boadu’s team the victory at Golden City Park.
Hubert Gyau’s close-range finish gave the hosts the lead after a quiet and unimpressive first forty-five minutes, setting off wild celebrations in Berekum.
After a mishandled corner kick by Medeama goalkeeper Felix Kyei, the young player poked home the first goal in the 70th minute.
Chelsea’s victory was sealed when Meshack Afriyie scored a goal inside the box to double the team’s lead and beat Felix Kyei in the goal.
Medeama had multiple opportunities to score, but Derrick Fordjour was the main culprit, missing at least two crucial ones. The defeat seems a bit harsh on him.
With seven games remaining in the season, the defending champions have dropped to eighth place, while Chelsea has surged to fifth place in the league standings with 41 points.
