John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has asked the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) to put pressure on Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to remove some annoyance taxes that the present administration has imposed.

Mahama called on Dr. Bawumia, who is also the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to act immediately rather than waiting to be elected president during his speech to GUTA members, highlighting the important nature of the matter.

In a prior speech to Ghanaians outlining his presidential ambitions, Dr. Bawumia detailed his proposals to do away with a number of levies, such as the E-Levy, emissions tax, electricity VAT, and betting tax.

Mahama, however, urged GUTA members to hold Dr. Bawumia responsible for his promises and warned them not to put their blind faith in these assurances.

Mahama stressed during the meeting, “Tell Bawumia to eliminate the E-Levy and other taxes now, not later.”
