At the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan on Thursday night, Ghana and Egypt’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations Group B match lived up to the expectations as they both played out a thrilling 2-2 draw.
Mohammed Kudus, a key player for West Ham, put on an excellent display and scored twice, but he was undone by two poor defensive plays by Inaki Williams and Sadat Bukari.
With the help of star attacker Mohammed Kudus, the Black Stars took the lead twice, but the Pharaohs responded with goals from Mostafa Mohamed and Omar Marmoush to split the points.
As a consequence, Egypt moves up to second place in the group with two points, while Ghana remains at the bottom with one point.
Rivals in Group B, Mozambique (ranked third with one point) and Cape Verde (ranked first with three points) will square off on Friday afternoon at the same location.
On Monday, January 22, coach Chris Houghton and his team will resume Group B action, with Egypt taking on Cape Verde at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium and Ghana playing Mozambique at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium.
After suffering a setback against Cape Verde in their opening match and a draw with Egypt, the Black Stars will need a convincing victory over Mozambique to guarantee their position in the knockout phase as one of the top third-place teams.
