Ghana was taken aback when Cape Verde secured all three points in the first game of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Côte d’Ivoire 2023, thanks to a late goal from Garry Rodrigues.

Chris Hughton, head coach of the Black Stars, has expressed regret over his team’s defeat by the Cape Verdean Blue Sharks.

The Black Stars’ defeat devastated the Gaffer and brought back unpleasant memories of their first-round exit in Cameroon.

Speaking a post game reaction Chris Hughton expressed his bitter disappointment after the Black Stars walked away with nothing after a late goal saw them slip to a 2-1 loss to Cape Verde

“I think it rocked us the goal that we conceded (in the first half) but I thought that we got back into the game and at that stage it looked like we could go on and win it. We are hugely, hugely disappointed with the result,” he said.

Currently leading Group B with three points is Cape Verde.

Next Thursday, January 18, Ghana vs. Egypt at the Stade Félix Houphouët Boigny.
