According to reports, eleven headteachers who were suspended for charging one-form students unapproved fees have been reinstated. However, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has advised the public to ignore these reports.

On December 7, the headmistress of the Ghana Senior High School in Koforidua was placed under arrest for allegedly selling items to Form One students who were enrolled in the school without permission.

For the same alleged offense, seven additional head teachers at senior high schools (SHSs) throughout the Ashanti Region were also placed under arrest. In different statements dated December 8, 2023, the Ghana Education Service interdicted these seven.

Cassandra Twum Ampofo, head of the Ghana Education Service’s (GES) public relations unit, stated that the eleven SHS headteachers were placed on interdiction due to their flagrant disregard for the GES’s directives.

The headteachers who were placed under interdiction were supposed to appear before a committee, but that did not happen, according to Zakaria Suleman Yeboah, the Ashanti regional chairman of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), who spoke with Citi News on December 12.

Through its social media pages on Sunday, December 17, the GES advised the public to ignore any reports purporting to show that the headteachers who had been placed under investigation had been reinstated.
