The largest telco in Ghana, MTN, has justified raising the costs of its services for both prepaid and postpaid users by 15%.

Customers of Fiber Broadband and Fixed Wireless Access (4G Router/Turbonet) were also impacted by the price increase, which went into effect on Tuesday, November 28, 2023. The price increase also affected voice, SMS, and data services.

A few Ghanaians expressed their unhappiness with MTN’s steep price increase for its services on social media.

The company with Significant Market Power (SMP) did, however, clarify that the increase was required to maintain business operations.

“The review is now required because operating expenses have gone up. According to a statement from MTN, the review will permit the company to keep making the investments necessary to maintain its operations moving forward.

MTN Ghana’s Chief Commercial Officer, Mr. Noel Kojo-Ganson, gave an explanation for the increase, citing market pressure as the cause:

“We are very mindful of the challenging economic conditions and the increasing cost of inputs for our business. The price review is necessary to enable us to continue to sustain the business and make the needed investments in the network and new innovations to enhance customer experience.”

MTN Ghana beseeched its esteemed clientele to persist in its emphasis on providing a dependable, inventive, and enhanced customer experience. Our customers continue to be our top priority, and we’ll keep coming up with new ideas to provide them with the best possible value and experience.
