At San Pedro’s Laurent Pokou stadium on Wednesday night, the two teams played to an exciting 2-2 draw. However, Ghana’s Ampem Darkoa suffered a painful 3-2 penalty loss to SC Casablanca.

Ampem Darkoa of Ghana and SC Casablanca of Morocco, who are both making their debuts in the continent’s top women’s football club competition, have both had remarkable games in Cote d’Ivoire.

A spot in the final was up for grabs for the two teams looking to cap off an incredible debut

An early pressure from the Ghanaians resulted in a penalty kick which Comfort Yeboah scored for the first goal for Darkoa in just six minutes.

The defender was back on the scoreboard a few minutes later, this time thanks to a regrettable own goal that gave the Moroccans the equalizer in the 28th minute.

Despite that howler, Ampem Darkoa persisted in their efforts and were duly rewarded in the 39th minute when Jennifer Owusuaa, who was in fine form, restored the lead with an incredible long-range strike that left the entire stadium in disbelief.

After the break, SC Casablanca returned with a new mindset and a goal to equalize as soon as possible. The Moroccan team, who had exerted pressure, was rewarded with a penalty kick early in the second half, which Agueissa Diarra converted in the 56th minute.

When it mattered most, neither team was able to separate itself in referee regulation time or extra time, despite having an equal number of opportunities to score the game’s winning goal.

With the lottery of penalties, the Moroccans prevailed 3-2 in a thrilling shootout, setting up a Sunday tie against Mamelodi Sundowns. Meanwhile, the Ghanaians will compete against AS Far for the bronze medal.
