Following a string of appalling outcomes, Dutch coach Martinus Koopman and Accra Hearts of Oak, Giants in Ghana’s premier division, have mutually parted ways.
In match week 10 of the 2023–24 betPawa Ghana Premier League, the Rainbow boys’ dismal scorelines against rival Legon Cities led to the Dutchman’s dismissal.
After the two sides reached a mutual understanding, Harts of Oak issued a news release. Hearts have not been close to their peak. The past two seasons have been difficult for the Phobians in the league.
After Hearts of Oak’s struggle with relegation in the previous season, several supporters began to question the team’s prospects in both the Premier League and, more significantly, Africa.
Over their last three games, the Phobians have five points out of a possible nine.
After match day 10, Hearts are ranked eleventh. They are nine points behind the leaders, Aduana Stars, who have twenty-one points.
Hearts of Oak released a statement expressing gratitude for Koopman’s work throughout his term and wishing him well in his future ambitions. Additionally, they said that assistant coach Bashiru would take over as interim head coach until further notice.
When the Ghana Premier League returns from its international break on Tuesday, November 21, Hearts of Oak takes on Accra Lions, and Bashiru will be hoping to make a winning start in his new role.
